Reaching net-zero emissions will be the hardest thing humanity has ever done, and it will require unprecedented collaboration across all parts of society. Spending the past few days at the Breakthrough Energy Summit has left me with an increased sense of hope that together we can accelerate the clean energy transition and avoid a climate disaster.
I believe we’ll be able to avoid a climate disaster. The ultimate measure of success is global greenhouse-gas emissions: we need to go from 51 billion tons a year to 0 in the next three decades. I’m optimistic we can get there, as long as we make the right investments and decisions now.
